Mr. Syed Mahbubur Rahman is a distinguished and accomplished banking professional, currently serving as the Managing Director & CEO of Mutual Trust Bank PLC (MTB) in Bangladesh. With his extensive experience and exceptional leadership skills, he has made significant contributions to the banking and financial sector in the country.

Previously, Mr. Rahman held the position of Managing Director & CEO at Dhaka Bank PLC, where he led the bank to receive the esteemed ‘Bank of the Year-2018 in Bangladesh’ award from THE BANKER, recognizing their banking excellence. This accomplishment further solidified his reputation as a prominent figure in the industry.

Prior to his role at Dhaka Bank Limited, Mr. Rahman served as the Managing Director & CEO and Deputy Managing Director (DMD) of BRAC Bank PLC, contributing significantly to its success. He also gained valuable experience as the Deputy Managing Director of Prime Bank PLC.

Mr. Rahman’s outstanding leadership and achievements have earned him several prestigious accolades. He has been honored with the titles of “Banking CEO of the Year Bangladesh” by Global Banking and Finance Review and International Business Magazine. Additionally, World Business Outlook Magazine recognized him as the “Inspirational Leader of the Year Bangladesh.” Notably, he was accorded ‘The Asian Banker Leadership Achievement Award’ for Bangladesh, a testament to his exceptional contributions during his tenure at BRAC Bank.

Apart from his role at MTB, Mr. Rahman holds key positions within the financial industry. He serves as the Chairman of the Board of Industrial & Infrastructure Development Finance Company Limited (IIDFC) and the Vice Chairman of Primary Dealers Bangladesh Limited (PDBL) and Prothom Alo Trust. Furthermore, he serves as a Director of LIC of Bangladesh Ltd and BD Venture Ltd. He is also actively involved as a Trustee Member of HAEFA Bangladesh and Trustee Treasurer at CSR Centre. From 2018 to 2019, he served as the Chairman of the Association of Bankers, Bangladesh Limited (ABB), highlighting his dedication to the advancement of the banking sector.

Mr. Rahman began his professional journey after completing his Master of Business Administration (MBA) from the Institute of Business Administration at the University of Dhaka. He started his career as a Monitoring Officer at Saudi-Bangladesh Industrial & Agricultural Investment Co. Ltd. (SABINCO) and subsequently worked as a Manager of Monitoring at Industrial Leasing & Development Co. (BD) Limited (IDLC). He then held managerial roles at ANZ Grindlays Bank, Bangladesh, and Standard Chartered Bank. His career progressed further when he joined Citibank N.A., where he eventually became a Director and Head of Financial Institutions Group.

Mr. Rahman is known for his expertise and frequently participates in local and overseas training courses and workshops. He is also a respected speaker, delivering lectures on finance, banking, and management. Outside of his professional pursuits, he finds joy in his personal life with his wife and two daughters, providing a sense of balance to his accomplishments in the banking industry.
