Mutual Trust Bank Limited (MTB) and the Dhaka University Alumni Association (DUAA) jointly organized the 2nd MTB DUAA Samson H. Chowdhury Campus Journalism Awards 2015, recently, at the Alumni Floor of the Nabab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Bhaban, University of Dhaka. Professor Emeritus Dr. Anisuzzaman graced the program as the Chief Guest, while Professor Dr. A A M S Arefin Siddique, Vice Chancellor, University of Dhaka (DU) inaugurated the program. M. A. Rouf, JP, Vice Chairman and Anjan Chowdhury, Director, Mutual Trust Bank Ltd. attended the program as the Special Guests. Raquibuddin Ahmed, President, DUAA, presided over the program while Anis A. Khan, MTB Managing Director & CEO presented the felicitation speech. Senate members, provosts, deans, chairmen and teachers of different faculties and residential halls of DU, DUAA executive committee members, President and members of Dhaka University Journalists Association (DUJA), senior officials of MTB and DUAA, as well as DU students also attended the grand program.
The award was launched in 2014 to inspire young campus based journalists and had been named in the memory of the late Samson H. Chowdhury, former MTB chairman, founder of the Square Group of Companies and legendary business entrepreneur of Bangladesh. The awards were presented in three (3) different categories, print, electronic and online media. A total of 34 reports were short-listed for the award by the selection committee, headed by Professor Sheikh Abdus Salam, former chairman, Department of Journalism, DU, amongst which five (5) reports were awarded in the categories of print, electronic and online media. Each winner received a cash prize, a crest and a certificate.
